In August 2021, Terrance Kosikar, a former paramedic who responded to the fatal luge crash of Georgian athlete Nodar Kumaritashvili during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, visited Langley as part of the 2021 Ride to Recovery. This event aimed to raise awareness about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a condition Kosikar developed following the tragic incident.Langley Advance Times
The ride commenced at Jack Poole Plaza in Vancouver, where participants engaged in meditation and exercise before observing a moment of silence for Kumaritashvili. The group then proceeded to Barnes Harley-Davidson in Langley, joined by off-duty Surrey firefighters and community members. At this stop, Kosikar shared his personal journey through PTSD and his efforts to support others facing similar challenges.
During the event, Kosikar was honored with an honorary doctorate from Dr. Robert Perkins of the College of Certified Psychophysiologists, recognizing his advocacy work. Additionally, volunteers from the addiction recovery center Together We Can presented a donation to support Kosikar’s initiatives.
